Phantom Thrett, guru, aesthetic entity, and keen observer of existence, strikes yet again with a potent collage to welcome the warmth of the 2021 Southern California summer. Electric Feelings is Thrett's 9-song journey into a world of unique soul emotion accented on the backdrop of future past soundscapes dripping with vintage lazerdust and Rawkus Records-esque spacesuit logos. For those seasoned in the ways of the samurai, it will be self-evident that this level of life-sharing in audio emerges from selective seclusion, as Thrett offers on "Coexist," When I go ghost I'm doing the most work." The chill introspection intensifies with the Jippy-produced "Dance With Me," a brilliant reflection where pain and joy intertwine in cryptic autobiography by vacuum tube vocals and a half short and twice strong rhyme; the moments of bliss were beautifully indelible, but, like the nature of all moments, they must perish perpetually. Jippy slightly lifts the tempo with "Right Idea," a smooth groovy planetary tremor playfully shaking Shawn J. Period off of the MPC for an under two minute siesta. The word wizard Waju joins his crewmember to shoot lines those without prisms on their third eyes will miss, such as "Puttin' hours over beats/Gave my power over weeks/Did my mileage through the streets, see how far the tape measure." The Plot Thickens" evolves as a cleverly lighthearted yet equally solemn exposition of bar superiority where both other rappers and self are observed under a high power microscope. Thrett offers the retrospective sharp aphorism, "But the plot thickens/Maybe I'm going in circles 'cus I'm not listenin'/And hurdles became twice the distance." The Caribbean incense gives off sacred nag champa in "All I Got Is My Word," as the IE's own prolific Cam Gnarly joins Thrett in deep musing on the bittersweetness of obscurity over Gas Lab's sharp kick/snare and flute textures. Art created with the rare intricacies of Phantom Thrett befuddles those not willingly to actively work with the work, hence Thrett's remark "These puzzles only confuse the customers, not those who apply." Gnarly shares a similar sentiment in his lines "...I know the science, no Urkel or Dexter/Been in lab, it takes some time tailor making these textures." Jippy ends the needle to the groove symphony with the sounds of "In My Garden," an undressing room where Thrett exposes his innermost spirit tones to the attentive and hypnotized listener. The final touch of the album is both dream and reality, as the transformed lover craving a second chance may capsize the ship in the far reaches of the sea once again. But in the midst of the beautiful tragedies of life, Thrett concludes with not an abandonment of all to chance but the prophetic refrain, "All I want to be is a better man," as Electric Feelings lures us to all be better people.
